In Memoriam - Francine Campone, MCC, AMCS
All of us at CSJ are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear colleague and CSJ supervisor Francine Campone on June 27, 2025.
We were recently informed that Francine had passed away. While we do not have any additional details to share at this time, other than that she passed away peacefully, we are deeply grateful to have had the chance to know and work closely with Francine, who was a truly remarkable and lovely human being.
She self-described as "mature and complex," shaped by her "extensive education and training, immigrant family background, art-making, grandmothering and many years of formal Zen practice." She worked as a coach for more than 30 years and contributed to the coaching profession as a mentor, researcher, assessor, and supervisor, and in all of her many roles touched the lives of countless clients and coaches — rippling out to all of those they impacted in turn.
In describing her reasons for being part of the CSJ supervision program, Francine noted that "I do this work because I am deeply committed to encouraging the next generation of coaches to nurture a more inclusive and compassionate generation of leaders. As a formal Buddhist practitioner, my core values center on accepting and appreciating the full spectrum of human beings and doing what I can to foster an inclusive, just and compassionate society."
She truly lived these values, and her death is a loss to the whole CSJ community, as well as to the coaching profession as a whole.
Remembering Francine (from CSJ supervisors and board members)
I first met Francine as my faculty member when I attended the Evidence-Based Coaching course at Fielding. She was inspiring in her presence and her championing for social justice right to the end. I shall miss her presence and know that the ripples of her life will continue forever (Lily Seto, CSJ coaching supervisor, MA, CEC, PCC, ESIA Master Practitioner)
Francine was a connector of people and purpose, one of the few people who could change a room by bringing insight, openness, and a silent but ferocious dedication to justice and compassion. Her combination of humility and intellectual discipline encouraged others to be more whole, honest, and human. I am grateful to have known her, even if only for a season. In continuing this and other works she had started with such care, I will remember her voice -- gentle, exacting, and always encouraging deeper exploration. (PoYee Dorrian, CSJ coaching supervisor, MCC, EMCC Certified Coach)
I first met Francine in 2008. I knew her as someone with a deep interest in coaching research, and as someone with a big heart and a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging. In addition to being a personal loss for so many of her colleagues, it is also a loss for the greater coaching community. (Jonathan Sibley, CSJ board member, CSJ coaching supervisor, MCEC, MBA)
Francine Campone was, and remains, a significant contributor to our evolving world of change. As a coach and a human being, I experienced her as someone who maintained a readiness for co-creation, valued pause, and honored “safe space.” As a founding Coach Supervisor of CSJ, and colleague, she contributed a great deal of reflectively rich perspectives and insights that fueled the forward movement of our group’s mission and purpose. She was the substance of support and will continue to be an archetype of integrity. (Sunni Smith, MS, JD, LLM, PCC)
And from the broader community (please let us know if you would like to share something here)
I met Francine in Coaching Supervision PD and Peer Supervision as well as in some of her writing. It is with gratitude that I can say that her presence has supported my being a coach and a supervisor and lives on. (Brian Duggan ACS MCC)
