Board member

As a supervisor, I aspire to hold a space that is safe enough to do the sometimes challenging work of helping one another to see things in new ways - to see what we haven't been seeing and, at times, to feel what we haven't been feeling.

I like to enlist supervision group attendees to be co-supervisors with me so that, together, we can work as more than the some of our parts, while building our self-supervision skills.

As a white cis-gender male with lots of privilege in our society, I think it is important to use this power, influence and privilege to make a difference in the field of coaching and with our organizational clients (who often need our help with this).

I've worked as an organizational coach and psychotherapist for 20 years and as a coaching supervisor for more than 5 years and am on the board of Coaching for Social Justice.

Jonathan coaches business leaders and leadership teams to greater effectiveness. He accomplishes this through four key strategies:

- Using a systemic lens to distinguish between and deal with the influence of organizational and team dynamics on individual performance

- Helping clients to better understand how their performance compares to the expectations of key stakeholders

- Helping clients to improve key relationships and deal more effectively with conflict

- Assisting clients to identify and overcome important blind-spots and obstacles to greater effectiveness, including (but not limited to) how to manage their emotions

Jonathan has coached a variety of executives, within for-profit and not-for-profit companies, from mid-level and C-suite executives to the chairperson of a board of directors. During his career at American Express, Jonathan led cross-functional product development teams, oversaw a four million dollar technology budget, served as a consultant with executives in Fortune 500 companies, and was the recipient of multiple awards for quality and innovation.

Jonathan has lived in the USA, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Brazil and is fluent in English, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese. This experience is not only helpful in working with multinational executives and their teams but has proven critical in identifying and working with subtle differences in individual and organizational cultures and sub-cultures.

Jonathan’s coaching clients include BMI, Bank of Montreal, Ford, FCA, Merck, Philips, Stanley Black and Decker, Rush University Medical Center, Fred Hutch, Habitat for Humanity, the Gates Foundation and Amnesty International.
